Four Noble Gentlemen Sumi-e X-Large Paintings

This is a set of four extra large original painting designed to be a centerpiece of any interior. Will look great in a variety of settings, from minimalist/contemporary to boho/eclectic, adding a touch of Oriental aesthetic to your home. This was my most important project of 2025 and I am very proud of the result.

Size: 54×27½ inches (138×70 cm) each — that's the largest size of rice paper I work with.

The Four Noble Gentlemen (四君子, Si Junzi) have been used in Chinese painting since medieval times because of their refined beauty, and were later adopted elsewhere in East Asia by artists in China, Japan, and Korea. As they represent the four different seasons (the plum blossom for winter, the orchid for spring, the bamboo for summer, and the chrysanthemum for autumn), the four are used to depict the unfolding of the seasons through the year.

I used Japanese sumi ink with a touch of dark burgundy mineral pigment for this rendering of the Four Nobles, painting the artworks on the highest quality Xian paper. Each painting is stamped with stone seals also carved by myself
