North American Landscape — a nature view of Yoho National Park in BC Canada, original sumi-e ink painting of mountains and trees over water
This is a view of Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada, painted in Japanese ink on handmade rice paper. The technique is traditional sumi-e, but the subject and the composition is entirely original.
Yoho National Park is a national park of Canada in British Columbia. It is located within the Rocky Mountains along the western slope of the Continental Divide of the Americas. I was inspired by breathtaking views captured by my Canadian friend Sonya and painted this serene landscape in September 2020. I used black sumi ink with a subtle hint of color on best Xuan paper, and applied the ancient Oriental techniques of Mountains-And-Water painting to a purely Western composition to bridge the two cultures together. This impressive work is large enough to be a centerpiece of any interior.
