Hand Carved Stone Seal "Tao" (The Way), Taoist Oriental Chop Stamp

A seal is an Oriental printing stamps used as signatures in personal documents, office paperwork, contracts, art, or any item requiring acknowledgement or authorship. In the western world they were traditionally known by traders as chop marks or simply chops. Seals still widely used in Japan, Korea, and China.

This particular seal is 1×1 cm in size and contains the word "Tao" in the Chinese Old Seal Script (Zhuang Shu).

Tao or Dao is a Chinese word signifying "way", "path", "route", "road" or sometimes more loosely "doctrine", "principle" or "belief". In the context of East Asian philosophy and East Asian religions, Tao is the natural order of the universe whose character one's human intuition must discern in order to realize the potential for individual wisdom.

I enjoy carving seals and consider it a part of my artistic practice. I always carve my seals by hand, like it used to be for centuries, never use any machines or ready-made designs. Every seal has its own character that will never be reproduced.
