Enso Zen Circle in Blue: Original Art on Rice Paper, Buddhist Calligraphy

Enso is a hand-drawn circle used as a meditation practice in Zen Buddhism, done in one fluid brushstroke to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.

I draw enso circles to concentrate and to unleash my creative power. This is always spontaneous act, depending on what's around and what's inside me, and it's great spiritual practice.

The enso symbolizes enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and the void. It is characterized by a minimalism born of Japanese aesthetics. The drawing tools are the same as those used in traditional Japanese calligraphy and sumi-e painting: a brush, black ink and thin rice paper.

This particular enso has been created on the Full Moon night, 7 September 2025. I used blue colour for this particular enso (not typical as I usually use black ink). The finished work has imprints of stone seals carved by myself: "Buddha Teaching Is In All Things" and my personal seal.
